Study Check — Submission Terms
Ballast Planning LLC Effective 29 July 2026 · Version 1.0
Routed 9 September 2026 with the Study Check submission form. The product these terms govern is named Study Check on every customer surface; earlier drafts of this page called the same product "study review." Only that name changed — no term, condition, limit, or promise in this document was added, removed, or altered.
What the Study Check is
You send us your association's existing reserve study. We review it and send back a detailed Study Check summary (the findings letter), normally within two business days.
The findings letter explains the visible findings, what your study currently appears to support, and what would resolve material gaps.
It is free, and it carries no obligation on either side.
What it is not
It is not a reserve study, and it does not update or replace yours.
It is not a warrantability determination. Only a lender can determine whether a project is eligible for agency financing.
It is not a grade of the firm that prepared your study. Our findings address your study's position against agency requirements and against our own published standards for coverage and traceability. We do not evaluate, rate, or comment on the preparer. Where our standard is stricter than the requirement, we say so and label it as ours.
It is not legal, engineering, or accounting advice, and it does not create a professional or fiduciary relationship. We do not perform, and the findings letter is not, any service that may only be performed by a licensed architect or engineer, an attorney, or a certified public accountant. Submitting a study does not engage us, and reviewing one does not obligate us.
What you are confirming when you submit
- You are a board member, officer, employee, manager, or authorised agent of the association, or you are otherwise authorised to share the study with us
- Sharing it does not breach a confidentiality, licence, or copyright restriction — check the cover page of your study; some preparers restrict redistribution
- The information you give us about the association is accurate to your knowledge
If you are not sure you are authorised, ask your board before submitting.
What we do with what you send
We use your study to prepare your Study Check and findings letter. That's it.
We store your study and the findings letter as part of our records. We do not publish your study, share it outside Ballast, or provide it to anyone else without your permission.
Anonymised methodology research. We may use what we learn across many studies to develop and publish our own methodology — for example, how often a category of component is omitted, or how frequently a funding method appears. Anything we publish is aggregated and stripped of anything identifying you, your association, your property, or your preparer. If you would rather we exclude your study entirely, say so when you submit and we will.
Everything else follows our Privacy Policy.
Turnaround and availability
Two business days is our target, not a guarantee. Volume, study length, and holidays affect it. If we can't meet it, we'll tell you.
We may decline any submission, for any reason, without explanation. Reasons we might: the document isn't a reserve study, it's illegible, the property is outside our scope, or we identify a conflict.
Reliance
The findings letter is prepared for your association, as of its date, based only on the document you sent us. We do not inspect the property, verify the study's underlying data, or independently confirm its cost figures.
No one else may rely on it. If you give it to a lender, a buyer, an agent, or an owner, they receive it for information only, and we owe them no duty and accept no liability.
It reflects the rules in effect on its date. Requirements change.
No warranty, and limits
The Study Check is provided free, "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ballast is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost financing, diminished property value, or failed transactions, arising out of the Study Check or the findings letter.
Our total liability arising out of the Study Check and the findings letter will not exceed one hundred dollars ($100).
Liability under a paid engagement is governed by that engagement's own agreement — not by this page.
Disputes
Section 15 of our Terms of Use applies to any dispute arising out of the Study Check, and is incorporated here. That section requires you to raise the dispute with us first, then resolve it by individual binding arbitration, and it contains a class action waiver and a thirty-day opt-out. Utah law governs.
Changes
We may update these terms. The version in effect when you submitted governs your submission.
